No age limit any longer for acquisition of supplementary pension rights

On 20 April 2018, the Cabinet approved a draft bill abolishing the possibility of creating conditions for affiliation and the acquisition of supplementary pension rights. In other words, affiliation will take effect immediately for everyone, and they will immediately start to build up pension rights.

No age limit any longer for acquisition of supplementary pension rights

Hitherto, the Supplementary Pensions Act (LPC/WAP) has permitted conditions to be attached to the affiliation of an employee provided that he or she joined the pension scheme at the age of 25 at the latest. The WAP also allowed supplementary pensions to be acquired only after one year of affiliation, unless the pension scheme provided otherwise.

The present bill abolishes these limitations, and thus implements the European Directive concerning the transferability of pension entitlements. The new act is intended to come into effect on 21 May 2018.
