Vanbreda Risk & Benefits brings agricultural expert Finepolis on board

Finepolis is joining the brokerage group Vanbreda Risk & Benefits. It is known in the market primarily for its insurance expertise in the agricultural sector. Pedro Matthynssens, CEO at Vanbreda Risk & Benefits: ‘This strategic acquisition strengthens our position as an insurance partner for industrial and agricultural businesses. The food industry has long been one of our key focuses, but growers were missing from our portfolio. With Finepolis, we now offer a comprehensive range of services.’

Insurance broker Finepolis has a client portfolio of SMEs and industrial companies throughout Flanders. As well as managing traditional fire, accident and other risks insurance policies for SME clients, it specialises in tailored insurance solutions for fruit and grape growers, the timber sector and greenhouse and horticultural businesses. Managing Director Frédéric Achten and his team will stay on at the new entity Vanbreda Finepolis.

Frédéric Achten, Managing Director at Finepolis: ‘Insurance is a people business. We’re close to our clients: we understand their concerns and risks, and don’t have a 9-to-5 mentality any more than they do. For us, it’s boots on the ground every day – literally – alongside them. By joining forces with the national market leader in business insurance, we’ve guaranteed the long-term continuity of our company and raised our activities to an even higher level. This will give us traction with insurers, strengthen our operations and put us in a position to offer our clients access to a wider range of insurance expertise and solutions. It’s a growth opportunity we’ve seized with both hands.’

Alphonse Boonen, account manager at Finepolis: ‘Completely preventing damage is impossible, but we’re the best at providing good insurance. We treat every claim as if it were for our own business. With my years of experience as a fruit grower, I understand the risks our clients face inside-out, and we provide solutions that really make a difference. This practical knowledge and our targeted approach have made Finepolis a leading broker in the sector. What particularly appeals to us about Vanbreda Risk & Benefits is that they’ve retained their family-oriented character and personal approach despite their size. This fits perfectly with who we are and the way we work.’

Pascal Joosten, Director of Risk & Broker Services at Vanbreda: ‘This acquisition brings on board a strong and unique player with exclusive access to insurers and specific product expertise. We’re already active in broad weather insurance for farmers. With Finepolis’s experience in the horticultural sector – a market in which haven’t had a presence before now – we’re accelerating our growth in the food industry. This is a great step that strengthens our market position and enriches our client base.’

Pedro Matthynssens, CEO at Vanbreda: ‘We’re delighted to be able to add the unique expertise of Finepolis to our services. Its corporate culture is also a good fit with ours, which is essential for successful integration and long-term cooperation. Frédéric and his team really embody our corporate values: Looking ahead, rolling up our sleeves and getting stuck in, and The client as our compass.’

Cyber attacks are hitting Belgian businesses harder than ever: Vanbreda Risk & Benefits, the country’s largest insurance broker, recorded one new cyber incident every week last year. That represents an increase of 64% on 2023. Although three-quarters of these incidents cost no more than 20,000 euros, 4% of businesses lost more than 1 million euros. Despite this, many businesses in Belgium continue to underestimate the risks. The new European legislation* designed to boost businesses’ resilience to cyber attacks should change this situation in 2025.
