Vanbreda Risk & Benefits wins Deloitte’s lifetime achievement award

For the seventh year running, Vanbreda Risk & Benefits has earned the right to call itself a Best Managed Company. As a result, the organisation has won a Platinum Label – the lifetime achievement award handed out by Deloitte Private, KU Leuven and Econopolis. CEO Pedro Matthynssens: ‘We’re delighted with this award. Thanks to the intensive process of recent years, we have a lot of confidence that we’ll continue innovating and growing sustainably.’

Every year since 2018, Deloitte Private, KU Leuven and Econopolis have sought to identify the ‘Best Managed Companies’ among unlisted Belgian businesses. The programme is built on four pillars: a transparent long-term strategy, extensive capabilities, strong commitment and solid financial results.

Looking back on a successful process

Pedro Matthynssens looks back with satisfaction on the process of the past few years: ‘Thanks to this programme, we’ve critically evaluated the fundamentals of our organisation in recent years and given innovations a firm footing. We’ve been challenged to think about where we want to be as a company in the long term. We’ve made a definite choice in favour of sustainable growth, and that’s led to us making some major decisions. For example, we’ve developed a greener business policy, our social engagement has been greatly strengthened, we’ve launched a diversity and inclusion programme and we’ve invested heavily in technology and digitisation, partly driven by increasing government regulation. We can look back on an instructive and fruitful experience.’

Agile and future-proof business policy

Vanbreda Risk & Benefits will continue to focus on integrating sustainability into its business strategy and developing client propositions based on extensive data analyses. Good governance – and constant tracking of developments – is becoming even more important.

With the arrival of private equity and the trend towards internationalisation in the insurance sector, monitoring market leadership will also be an important focus. ‘We’re conscious of our coveted position as Belgium’s largest insurance broker. Our strong financial results, targeted acquisitions and unwavering focus on attracting and retaining diverse talent at all levels will be critical to continued growth. Our strategy, which is developed and supported company-wide, reflects developments in society and responds proactively to them. Because of this, we’re well equipped to face future challenges.’

After gaining this award for seven years in a row, Vanbreda Risk & Benefits can no longer participate in the programme. However, as the winner of a lifetime achievement award, the organisation will remain closely involved in the community of Best Managed Companies in Belgium in the future.

Vanbreda Risk & Benefits has already carried out some acquisitions in the first half of this year. This growth is mainly concentrated in East and West Flanders. In its acquisition strategy, the insurance broker always targets strong commercial brokers with an established presence in their region. CEO Pedro Matthynssens: ‘This approach is paying off, so we’re stepping up our activity in 2025. In fact, two of our subsidiaries have now successfully taken the acquisitions route themselves. One new cyber incident at Belgian businesses every week

Press
13.03.2025

Cyber attacks are hitting Belgian businesses harder than ever: Vanbreda Risk & Benefits, the country’s largest insurance broker, recorded one new cyber incident every week last year. That represents an increase of 64% on 2023. Although three-quarters of these incidents cost no more than 20,000 euros, 4% of businesses lost more than 1 million euros. Despite this, many businesses in Belgium continue to underestimate the risks. The new European legislation* designed to boost businesses’ resilience to cyber attacks should change this situation in 2025.
